Airlie Gardens is primarily a self-guided, walking tour experience. The entire walking tour is 0.9 miles, and our unimproved nature trail adds an additional 0.3 miles, for a grand total of 1.2 miles. It takes most visitors an hour to an hour and a half to enjoy a leisurely walk through the gardens.
If you are bringing a large group of visitors, or if you are interested in learning more about the garden’s history, horticulture and ecology during your visit, you can pre-schedule a guided walking tour of the grounds. Airlie has trained volunteer Garden Guides that are sometimes available to give guided walking tours through the garden. There is no additional fee for booking a guided tour, however there is no guarantee that a volunteer guide will be available during your specific requested date and time.
Requests for a garden guide must be submitted at least 72 hours in advance or can be arranged as far in advance as you wish. If you are interested in arranging a guided tour for your group, please contact the Airlie Gardens main office at (910)798-7700. (Airlie does not offer discounted group rates, general admission is $8 per adult, $5 for New Hanover County residents and Military, and $3 per child)
