Creatures in the Night


Join our environmental educators for a family friendly evening of Bats! We’ll begin with a story under the great Airlie Oak and learn all about why bats are so important to our ecosystems. Then you’ll test your abilities through a series of challenges to see if you can survive in a bat’s world! If we’re lucky, we’ll be able to observe bats out in the evening hunting for their food!

This program will be held outdoors. In the event of rain, we will cancel. Pre-registration is required. 

  • When? Thursday, June 8th at 7:00PM
  • Cost? $9 Adults, $5 New Hanover County Residents or Military (with ID), $3 Children ages 4-12, FREE for Airlie Members(Pre-registration is required)
  • Children must be accompanied by an adult. Recommended for ages 6 and up.

What to Know


This program will be held entirely outdoors. Please check-in at the front desk upon arrival. We will hold the event on the Airlie Oak Lawn. In the event of inclement weather, the program will be canceled.

  • This program is  included in Garden Membership. Advance tickets are required.
  • Family friendly program, children must be accompanied by an adult
  • Bring blankets, chairs, and snacks for story time
