Airlie Gardens offers a broad range of educational programs for all ages and levels.
Fly over to Airlie Gardens to participate in a monthly Bird Hike, co-hosted with our partner, Wild Bird & Garden!! Recognized on the North Carolina Birding Trail as a Coastal Region site, Airlie offers some of the best birding in New Hanover County. To see what has been spotted check out Airlie’s HotSpot on eBird.com, a free, easy-to-use, citizen science observation database.
When: Second Wednesday of each month at 8:00 a.m.
Admission: Included in garden admission no pre-registration required. Check in at the Garden Services Center at arrival. Free for Airlie Members
Who: Birders of all levels are welcome. Recommended age is 12 years and up.
What to bring: Please bring binoculars if you have them, there will also be some for check out. Wear comfortable shoes and dress for the weather.
You are invited to take part in a butterfly release. An educator will be in our native Butterfly House discussing the butterfly life cycle and the different types of butterflies in the House that week. Butterflies will then be released into the Butterfly House. In case of rain, we will have an educator in our classroom, and guests will still be able to observe butterflies. Who: All ages welcome! Children under the age of 14 must be supervised by an adult.
