Beginner Birding

Fly Over to Airlie

There’s no better place to learn how to bird! Airlie Gardens is home to over 200 plus species of birds. We will go over basic birding skills, ID tricks, and proper binocular use! We’ll focus on the diverse habitats of some of our most common birds in the gardens. If you have binoculars, feel free to bring them along. We have limited pairs for check out.

This program will be held outdoors. In the event of rain, we will cancel. Pre-registration is required. 

  • Cost? $10 Adults, $5 New Hanover County Residents or Military (with ID), $3 Children ages 4-12, FREE for Airlie Members (Pre-registration is required)
  • Children must be accompanied by an adult. Recommended for ages 12 and up.
  • Please check-in at the front desk upon arrival.

Please bring binoculars and a bird guide if you have them. We have a limited number of binoculars available for check-out.

Recommended age is 12+. Attendees under the age of 16 must be accompanied by an adult.

Please wear comfortable shoes and dress for the weather.
