Hours of Operation

In an effort to keep staff and visitors safe as well as increase social distance, ALL admission tickets must be pre-purchased on our website, no tickets will be available for sale onsite. Visitors should be prepared to have their mobile or printed ticket barcode available  to scan at arrival. Citizens are requested to wear a face covering while inside any county building or at any of the county’s outdoor facilities (like Airlie Gardens, the Arboretum, and county parks) when they are within six feet of others. All tickets must be purchased online, in advance. There will be NO onsite ticket sales. Members may show their membership card or ID upon arrival for admission.

Garden Admission includes parking, access to the grounds all day, entrance to butterfly house & featured exhibits*. The self-guided walking experience typically takes visitors an hour and a half to complete; allowing for a leisurely stroll through the grounds.

Garden Closures

The gardens will be CLOSED to the public:

  • Thanksgiving Day (11/26)
  • Christmas Eve (12/24)
  • Christmas Day (12/25)
  • New Years Day (1/1)

The gardens close early* in preparation for the following special events: Summer Concert Series, Family Fun NightEnchanted Airlie.

*Last General Admission at 3:30 p.m on early closure days. We ask that all guests exit by 4:00 p.m.

Visitor Information

The self-guided walking experience typically takes visitors an hour and a half to complete; allowing for a leisurely stroll through the grounds. Garden admission includes a map of the property, access to the grounds all day, and entrance to all seasonal garden exhibits; native butterfly house, bug zoo & yearly art exhibit. Compliant with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), buildings, restrooms and most garden pathways are wheelchair and stroller accessible. A wheelchair is available on a first come, first served basis. There is no additional fee for this service, however an ID is required for wheelchair checkout.

Wheelchair checkout is currently unavailable. 

Tram Service

Tram Service has been temporarily suspended. 

We offer a 7-passenger tram service that is included with general admission. Trams cannot be reserved and are operated on a first come, first served basis.


Guided Tours

Guided Tours have been temporarily suspended. 

Discover the rich history, horticulture and ecology with a docent-led tour. We recommend contacting us at least two weeks in advance to coordinate your reservation. All tours require a reservation and are only offered during weekdays.


Photography in the Gardens

We are happy to provide a unique backdrop for both amateur and professional photographers. While cellphone, nature photography, and casual picture taking is permitted on the grounds, all portrait photography and commercial shoots require a reservation and fee. Drones are not permitted to fly.

Airlie Gardens is located right off of US-17/Oleander Drive and is convenient to Interstate 40. Located at 300 Airlie Road in Wilmington, NC, the Garden is just minutes northeast of downtown Wilmington and is close to Wrightsville Beach and many other area attractions, accommodations and dining.
